The federal government should start to face and share more of the consequences they are effectively foisting on Vancouver and Toronto with their reckless policies.

Seek insights regarding Fixed income mutual fund
Main Post:
Hi everyone, I am working in a bond mutual fund. I have background in quant finance, stats, CS and AI.
As a traditional mutual fund shop, our team mainly focuses on macro and fundamental analysis. Quant is mainly used for: return attribution, curve calibration, credit beta calculation, portfolio optimization, scenario testing, regression/factor model to predict yield and FX prediction.
As someone who just started, I mainly have some concerns about future growth prospects in this shop and am hoping to get some help. I Worried if my CS/AI knowledge would be valued in the future because the team do trades mainly based on macro view and fundamental credit analysis. I am also not sure if quant strategy would be adopted by the team. Also because I’m not a native speaker, it’s not as ez for me to understand North American geopolitical, macro and corporate events as local people (most of my teammates). So I wonder what do the bond team at other funds like bank asset management, pension, hedge fund do? Would they welcome quant strategies more or they also primarily focus on macro? I know a book called expected returns by Antti Ilmanen that talks about various bond quant strategies. And I do think NLP for sure can have applications in any funds to help capture fed speeches sentiment. But I am just not sure to what extend do other funds really apply these strategies/AI technologies. Kinda wanna do a peer comparison to see where my team stands.
Thanks!

Labour to seek savings to fund policy promises after Jeremy Hunt's Budget

“Labour now intends to pay for its NHS and school breakfast plans through future savings to public spending if it wins power, Rachel Reeves has said.”

Labour and the Conservatives have similar rules: at the end of 5 year plan, debt is falling compared to the fourth year. Given we know a lot of the plans for 3-5 years away are undesirable or unlikely then Labour have a number of choices when they come to power:
- Break the rule and not have falling debt (although they will say they won’t do that in the run up to the election, they may do it before then)
- Increase taxes
- Decrease day to day spending
- Front load spending in an attempt to increase the economy so that future years have GDP growing quicker and debt falling that way
- Continue to make unrealistic future plans that they can reassess when they need to (eg continued real term spending cuts that are always 3 years in the future, tax take rising with inflation in the future but being cut right now, etc)

Privatizing law enforcement is the only possible way I can think of to make law enforcement even worse and less accountable.
